Eco-village project is all about reducing our-human negative footprint in our project sites.
In Year 2 project partners and community members are progressing towards evaluation of local beaches to establish baselines of cleanliness. This helps to develop site specific waste reduction and long-term monitoring programs. One pebble beach in the fishing community, one sand beach situated farther away from the settlement and one urban beach in the capital Praia showed prevalence of plastic. The exception was the pebble beach in Porto Mosquito where high quantity of styrofoam and sponge were found in both transects, materials that are used in the artisanal fishing boats. Part of the trash is washed from the sea is saying to us, what is dumped in one place, comes back in another.
